What Is Chiropractic Care?
One of the largest primary care professions in Ontario, chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.
What do Chiropractors Do?
Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.
For many conditions, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions. According to patient surveys, by treating the musculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve the general well-being of the patient.
Chiropractic treatment services are provided and billed by Clinic. Balance Chiropractic will provide you with a statement that you can submit to your insurance company to instruct them to send reimbursements directly to you. This can be done either lectronically or a printed copy will be made available. Please be aware that with many health plans Chiropractic Care may be under "Other" treatments.

How Does My Body Heal After an Injury?
Phase 1: Inflammation & Rest
Swelling and inflammation occur during the first few days of incurring an injury. The best way to treat the injury is to à concentrate on REST and using ICE to reduce the inflammation.
Note: Ice for 10 minutes on/off several times until inflammation is reduced.
This is a rest Phase, only do light activity to promote healing.
Phase 2: Repair - the Body Back Together Again
During the first 6 – 12 weeks, following an injury, your body will be working on repairing the injured tissue. It does this by forming scar tissue around the injured area. As this scar is forming, it is normal to feel a little more tension within the injured area. Over time, the scar will remodel and form a stronger and stronger scar. This remodeling, helps the weak scar to become stronger and build more tensile strength. During this Phase, it is very important to stay active and continue with your chiropractic treatments.
Phase 3: Strength & Full Recovery
This phase is all about remodeling and repair. Although, you may feel much better now, you are certainly not fully healed yet! It can take up to 12 months to fully heal an injury. Stay on track! Your chiropractic visits will be much less often as you graduate towards more of a maintenance treatment plan…Phase 3 recovery schedule. Frequency of care and length of recovery, really depends on the extent of the original injury, past injuries, your overall health and activity level. People often feel good and discontinue care too early. Your body needs to be encouraged to heal.
Dedication to the healing process will pay off in the form of a stronger, more balanced well-aligned and stable structure. Your body will thank you for it!
